چکیده

A systematic collection of throughfall (rain passing through the canopies), stemflow (rain flowing over the stems), and soil percolates was carried out in a Acacia dealbata plantation during one year, and its allelopathic capacity was biotested using Lactuca sativa L. var. Great Lakes. The results showed an allelopathic effect related to flowers: Germination of L. sativa was inhibited 30% by throughfall, 60% by stemflow, and 75% by soil percolates during the blossoming of A. dealbata, while radicle growth of L. sativa was inhibited 23%, 33%, and 48% by the same solutions. Climatic factors, particularly rainfall some days before, were also important. The three types of samples showed significant toxicities during some periods of the year, particularly percolates, which retained toxicity for a longer time, due perhaps to the decomposition of flowers fallen on the ground.

No allelopathic effect of the invader Acacia dealbata on the potential infectivity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi from native soils

The invasion success of the leguminous tree Acacia dealbata Link has been related to the release of novel chemical compounds that affect both native plant performance and native soil bacterial communities. However, the allelopathic effect of A. dealbata on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) has not been explored. We used natural leachates from invasive A. dealbata and native soils to assess the...

Natural and induced polyploidy in Acacia dealbata Link. and Acacia mangium Willd.

Seeds were obtained from seven natural populations of Acacia dealbata, three natural populations of A. mangium and a seed orchard of A. mangium, representing the natural range of the two species. Polyploids were discovered in two of the seven populations of A. dealbata. The 2C DNA amount for diploid A. dealbata (2n = 2x = 26) was 1.74 pg, and for diploid A. mangium (2n = 2x = 26) was 1.30 pg. A...

Phage particles infecting branchial Rickettsiales-like organisms in banded carpet shell Polititapes virgineus (Bivalvia) from Galicia (NW Spain).

Basophilic intracellular prokaryotic-like colonies were observed in the gills of banded carpet shell Polititapes virgineus (= Tapes rhomboides) (Linnaeus, 1767) from a natural bed in Galicia (NW Spain). Light microscope observations suggested the presence of 2 types of colonies, but transmission electron microscopy revealed that these were the same Rickettsiales-like colonies, one infected and ...

Biomass and nutrient mass of Acacia dealbata and Eucalyptus globulus bioenergy plantations

We quantified biomass and nutrient accumulation of Acacia dealbata Link and Eucalyptus globulus Labill. planted at stem densities of 5000 and 15000 ha 1 in a bioenergy plantation in Chile. We tested the hypotheses that species and stocking will not affect biomass or nutrient accumulation. Species and stocking did not affect biomass accumulation after five years; however, species and stocking di...
